Counseling for Young Adults

  • Who am I?

  • Who am I becoming?

  • Where am I headed?

  • Where will I thrive?

  • What kinds of people do I want to surround myself with?

  • What do I stand for?

  • How does my family of origin help or hinder me at this time in my life?

  • Do I have the necessary tools to manage myself, my relationships, my career, my life?

  • How do I achieve contentment, satisfaction in my work & relationships, and cultivate a fulfilling life?

Young adulthood, the period of development that occurs after adolescence, ranging into the mid-20’s, is a time of intense transition, uncertainty, and change.  Because of this, it can be quite anxiety provoking and an individual can have his or her first experience of an “identity crisis.”

Because personal insight is well on its way to fully developing, but is not yet fully developed at this developmental time, young adults can struggle with bouts of anxiety, depression, or risk-taking behaviors without fully understanding why they are feeling what they are feeling or why they are doing what they are doing.  Counseling for young adults can be a critical support during this pivotal time in development.  It can assist in answering the above-mentioned questions.  Counseling can also assist a young adult in sorting out what it will mean to manage a childhood struggle into adulthood, such as anxiety, ADHD, or a mood disorder.  Our work together will afford you the opportunity to sort this all out at your own pace while recognizing that so much of the wisdom you needed was already there, within – we just need to re-discover it.

The Gift of Forming a Therapeutic Alliance

I have many years of experience working with young adults and enjoy the work immensely.  Generally speaking, my young adult clients finish their counseling work, but may return at a later time in adulthood if/when a problem arises.  Establishing a long-lasting therapeutic alliance is extremely valuable.  If you are a young adult searching for counseling or the parent of a young adult, feel free to contact me for a free phone consultation.

In some cases, college students who are away from home for the academic school year, may still be able to participate in counseling with me via telehealth services.  It will depend on the geographic area in which your college is located and how that matches my licensure - which is held in both North Carolina and Maryland.

For a free 15-minute phone consultation to gain clarity on whether you, your child, or your family may benefit from counseling, feel free to contact me at 443-340-0505.  During our call, I will strive to offer preliminary answers to your most pressing questions and talk about the next steps.
