Parent Counseling and Education:

One of my most favorite things to do, is to support parents.  That’s because the journey of parenting is met with non-stop developmental changes for both your child and you; navigating those changes can be daunting.  Parents are often left scratching their heads and asking, “Am I really doing this right?”  The truth is, you’re likely doing a much better job than you’re giving yourself credit for.

Parenting is not easy… I know this… I am one!

Whether it’s parenting the anxious child, learning to manage your child’s ADHD, helping an older child with problems related to toileting, assisting a preadolescent or adolescent with navigating the murky social waters of fitting in and making friends, or understanding the adolescent brain in all of its peculiar and spectacular nuances, I am available to assist you on the journey of parenting -- whatever has come your way.

Breaking the Cycle: Helping Parents Heal

I also assist parents who fear they were not reared in a way that has left them with the proper tools for rearing their own children.  Maybe you were raised in an abusive home or a home in which there was emotional or psychological neglect and you know you want to break the cycle, but need reassurance on how to do that.  Working on this deeper level can lead you to greater self-awareness, increased confidence in your role as a parent, a more satisfying connection to your child, and ultimately, to a place of healing.

I assist parents with a wide range of parenting struggles by offering specific instructions, ongoing support, and interventions to implement at home right from the start.  My goal for our first session is that you leave with fresh ideas and new tools right away.  With my guidance, you will gain an in-depth knowledge base relevant to the parenting problems you are facing.  Over the course of several sessions, you will build a “tool kit” for managing those problems.

During parent counseling, we work collaboratively, without the child present.  We do this so that you feel free to speak candidly about the struggles you are facing.  Along the way, we also take a close look at that beautiful essence that is your child, and reconnect to that essence as sadly, it often becomes eclipsed by our own anxieties as parents or our child’s chronic behavior problems.  Raising children is both a beautiful and demanding experience.  We need support and reassurance along the way and that’s where I can help.

Healthy Parenting

Healthy parenting can be a
Challenger if your own childhood
Wasn't healthy.  It requires energy,
attention, and constant restraint.
These all come naturally from
healthy parent-child bonds.

If the parenting you received was
rigid, abandoning, or inconsistent,
you may find yourself exhausted by
your children.  Realize that you need
healing.  Take time out to nurture yourself.

You can make the choice to be a
healthy parent.  You can learn how
to trust what is happening and behave
appropriately.  You can find a healthy
model and follow it.

Unhealthy parenting disables
with wounds that are hard to heal.
Right mothering is a potent healer,
readily available to the natural
wounds of life.
